The Coeli Macro Strategy, which covers emerging markets, has been added to dbSelect, Deutsche Bank’s platform for liquid hedge fund strategies.

The strategy is managed by Coeli Asset Management with backing from IMQubator, which specialises in early stage investment in hedge fund strategies. The strategy aims to produce superior returns from emerging markets by exploiting overall market volatility and direction using foreign exchange and other exchange-traded instruments. Birgitte Jespersen, portfolio manager for the strategy, said: “We are pleased to be part of Deutsche Bank’s established dbSelect platform. As developed markets stage a modest recovery, it’s time to question traditional assumptions about emerging markets which are now 50% of global GDP. I believe EM equity, debt and FX markets will remain volatile, which is exactly the environment needed for dedicated EM Macro strategies to produce excellent returns and true diversification.”

IMQubator CIO, Rikard Lundgren, commented: “There is a context of large macro imbalances and the end of extreme monetary policies, against a backdrop of shifting economic power between countries and regions. We think this will lead to price dispersion within as well as between asset classes. Such an environment provides rich opportunities for a skill-based and adaptive investment strategy.”
