LGPS Investment Pool changes

Published: September 24, 2025

The landscape has shifted, decisions are needed – and the countdown is on! The good ship LGPS was rocked earlier this year by the tides of government, with two pools falling by the wayside and 21 funds made up for grabs. We’ve already begun to see some make their preferences known – but how will this change where the balance of power lies and who will come out on top of the table.

With the dust still settling, the key question now is how do these shifts play out on the ground? Each decision a fund makes reshapes the league table of who holds the influence. To make sense of it all, we’ve broken down the numbers, and split the findings across three lenses – starting with the pools themselves, before looking at the flows of change, before finally drilling into the individual funds that underpin the whole system.

Firstly, we dig deeper into the story behind the numbers – the movement of assets before and after the shake up. We trace how pools are being boosted by new fund arrivals and the overall assets under management they’re bringing to the table.

Next, we analyse how the redistribution of orphaned funds are reshaping the playing field. With billions in assets looking for a new home, every move has the potential to tip the scale. This graphic reveals how each change will affect the total assets under management each pool has in real time.

Finally, we strip it back to the raw building blocks: the funds themselves. This table sets out the scale of each individual fund across the UK, showing the stand-alone value of the assets, they currently hold. By understanding each in isolation, we get a clearer sense of the influence they carry.
