Investment Approach

LPPI is pleased to spotlight recent infrastructure investments that reflect our long-term commitment to responsible investment and local impact. Through GLIL Infrastructure, capital has been deployed into projects that support the UK’s energy transition and regional resilience.

In August 2025, GLIL acquired a 75% stake in a portfolio of seven solar assets via its partnership with Bluefield Solar. The sites span southern and central England and include operational, under-construction and ready-to-build assets. Several have secured Contracts for Difference under Allocation Rounds 5 and 6.

GLIL has also invested in the Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme (HARP), a major water infrastructure project that will help secure supply for over two million people in the North West. These investments align with LPPI’s broader approach to infrastructure, supporting assets that deliver long-term value for pension members while contributing to sustainable growth across the UK.

Recent Highlights

LPPI was featured in The Good Economy’s 2025 white paper on local investing. We contributed to the paper’s development, which sets out a framework for how LGPS pools can scale place-based investment. It highlights LPPI’s role in GLIL Infrastructure, a cross-pool fund that has successfully channelled pension capital into UK infrastructure, as a model for collaborative investment delivering strong returns and local impact. LPPI’s broader approach to local investment, including its focus on origination, due diligence and impact reporting, reinforces its commitment to supporting communities while meeting long-term financial objectives.

LPPI 2025 Annual Conference

In September, LPPI hosted its 2025 Annual Conference, bringing together partner funds and external stakeholders to explore the future of LGPS investment. Sessions covered the Pension Schemes Bill, strategic funding approaches, macroeconomic risks and career journeys within the investment team. Senior figures including Chris Rule, Matthew Graham, Emma Hill and Joe Peach contributed to the discussions, reinforcing LPPI’s role as a convenor of ideas and innovation across the sector.
