Independent investment consultant, Redington, has been appointed as strategic investment adviser to the £10 billion Merseyside Pension Fund.

Redington’s first priority will be to help deliver an ambitious change programme over the next 12 to 24 months. This includes delivery of a net zero action plan and wider RI strategy, a full review of the fund’s equity, fixed income and private markets portfolios, and a wider review of its risk management arrangements.

Another key objective is to consolidate Merseyside’s strong funding position whilst continuing to meet its wider strategic objectives.

Peter Wallach, director of pensions for Merseyside Pension Fund, commented: “Merseyside Pension Fund is at a critical juncture in its journey. As well as looking to consolidate a strong funding position, we are undertaking a detailed change programme, reviewing all areas of investment strategy inclusive of net zero.

“Redington brings a fresh, innovative perspective and a straightforward approach to solving problems.”

Redington works with a range of LGPS clients representing more than £40 billion of assets under management. It was appointed as investment consultant to the £1 billion London Borough of Bexley Pension Fund in August 2022.

In October 2022, Redington announced that it was the first UK investment consultant to have been certified as a B Corp. B Corp is the only certification that measures a company’s entire social and environmental impact. Redington joins more than 5,000 companies awarded B Corp status, with each forming part of a global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy that uses business as a force for good.
