West Sussex County Council has appointed AllenbridgeEpic Investment Advisers as the independent chairman of its pension advisory board, with Peter Scales OBE, a senior adviser at AllenbridgeEpic, acting as the individual chairing the board.

Scales will provide leadership to the pension advisory board, to enable it to meet its governance responsibilities under the pension fund’s legislative and regulatory requirements. AllenbridgeEpic managing director, John Arthur, said: “We are delighted that a leading local authority pension fund has appointed us to this key governance role as their independent chairman of the board. We look forward to working closely with the fund to help it meet it’s responsibilities under this new governance structure.” West Sussex County Council executive director, corporate resources, Peter Lewis, said: “We look forward to working with Peter and AllenbridgeEpic to ensure the pension fund’s governance arrangements are fully compliant and that employers and scheme members are effectively represented in assisting us with the administration of the fund.”

Peter Scales is a member of AllenbridgeEpic’s investment panel and has over 45 years’ experience in local government finance, including 25 years in pensions. He was chief executive of the London Pensions Fund Authority until December 2006 and currently works with three pension funds.
